Production of tourist railcars is expected to start in
Uzbekistan by September 2011.
The railcars will be produced by the Tashkent Railcar
Building and Repair Plant.
New design provides for only eight passenger spaces
per one railcar. The main difference is that foreign tourist will derive
maximum comfort travelling in such railcars. Each of the twin-berth sleeping
compartments will be equipped with a separate kitchen. During the travel,
passengers will have an access to the Internet. The first railcars will serve
foreign tourists travelling from Tashkent to Samarkand, Bukhara and Khiva.
The Tashkent Railcar Building
and Repair Plant launched production of passenger railcars in 2009 and has produced
over 30 railcars by now. Uzbekistan is planning to produce 115 passenger
railcars by 2016, which will involve US $94,9 mln. of own funds of the
Uzbekistan Railways, SJSRC.
