Central
Asian-focused energy company Tethys Petroleum signed an agreement with Uzbekistan
to study two potential oil fields.
The
Canadian firm will assess existing data on exploration areas in the regions of
Ustyurt and Bukhara-Khiva with a view to beginning exploration projects, the company
announced on Wednesday.
The
oil and gas exploration and production firm, which is listed on the Toronto stock
exchange in Canada and on the Kazakhstan stock exchange, discovered oil at Kazakhstan¡¯s
Doris field near the Aral Sea.
As the
Doris project is only around 20 miles from the border with Uzbekistan, there is
a chance to find oil in the Uzbek portion of the basin, the company said.
