Uzbekistan is planning to increase the volume of
production of construction glass by 1.3 times to 13 million square meters a
year in 2011-2015.
Zerkalo XXI newspaper reported that currently
Uzbekistan develops large investment in organization of production of
architecture-construction glass in Navoi region.
The Uzbek side is searching for potential foreign
investor. The capacity of the enterprise will be 200 tonnes of fluid glass a
day. The preliminary cost of the project is estimated at US$50 million. New enterprise
will be launched in the middle of 2015.
The newspaper said Uzbekistan is planning to implement
three more small projects on organization of production of various glasses and
glass products in Tashkent region.
Their total cost makes up US$60 million and total
capacity will make up 250,000 square meters of construction glasses and 10,000
units of glass products, the paper added.
According to the State Statistics Committee,
production of construction glasses in Uzbekistan made up 12.599 million square
meters in 2010. The growth rate made up 22.7% year-on-year.
Largest and oldest enterprise of glass industry in
Uzbekistan is Kvartz, OJSC (Quvasoy, Ferghana region). Share of the enterprise on
the Uzbek market made up over 54% in 2010, according to estimates of
Uzstroymaterialy.
The second largest player is an Uzbek-British joint
venture Gazalkent Oyna (Tashkent region). Its share makes up about 30% of the
market.
